I am interested in supporting the seal hunting industry by buying seal meat and other products, but I can't find them anywhere. If you check out today's story on the China deal http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundland-labrador/story/2011/01/12/nl-china-seal-112.html#socialcomments there are plenty of comments from other people looking for seal products as well. Could you email me the contact info of someone selling seal meat in New Brunswick please? Maybe the seal industry needs to be promoted better in Canada, because I'm sure there are plenty of people who would gladly support this industry if given the chance.

I would have posed this question to the CSA http://www.sealharvest.ca/index.html but they don't even have an email address listed on the website.
Hi Derek,

I hear you and whenever the opportunity has arisen I have been a steadfast proponent of marketing seal products in Canada. I can't count the number of requests I have had for products and have passed this along to industry folks with the caveat, "you are missing a golden opportunity". Apparently it has fallen on deaf ears as access to products are no better today than they were years ago. It was only recently that the federal government changed regulations which restricted the transport of seal meat over provincial boundaries. Before the change one had to have a written declaration to be permitted to do so. Laughable at best! Currently I would think your best bet for seal meat would be to look within Quebec, maybe specialty butcher shops in Montreal or somewhere on the Magdalen Islands. I can only hope that this recently lifted restriction on seal meat will prompt others on the East coast to start participating in the trade.

Cheers,
Mike
